Message You can try a few things, its been a while since I've used that camera but I'll give it a whirl

switch the camera to be on shutter priority mode .. meaning you'll set the shutter speed. Set the shutter speed to something like 1/100 ranging up to 1/200 and maybe lower to 1/60 (though this will get tricky to handhold) Setting the camera to shutter priority will force it to pick the aperture ... mainly b/c I cant remember waht it goes up to on that camera

you could try manual mode (keep auto focus on) set the shutter like above .. then set the aperture to the highest number (smallest hole) you can.

its really hit or miss, day will vary greatly from 1 hour to the next and sometimes 1 minute to the next. So keep checking the LCD screen as well.

The movement for panning sounds easy ... and it is relatively once you get the hang of it ... DONT swing the camera with your arms .. your guarenteed to move the camera up or down in that motion resulting in a completely blurry picture.
If you swing from your hips (moving the entire upper body with the movement of the car) then your less likely to move the camera up or down ... thus you'll keep the car completely in focus while the wheels and background will be motion blurred.

email me or post back here if you need clarification or can tell me more about what you see on the camera ... i honstly cant remmeber too much about that camera
